Language Nest Program

We are now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 program year! The deadline for applications is January 25, 2019 at 4:00pm.

The goal of the Language Nest Program is to create new language speakers by creating language and cultural immersion environments for preschool age children and their parents to become fluent in their First Nations languages. In Language Nests, young children are immersed in the language, parents are encouraged to participate, and staff, volunteers, and Elders carry out daily activities in the language with the children.

FPCC is accepting proposals to the Language Nest Program for up to $50,000. Grants should be between $25,000 - $50,000 maximum, per year.

Multi-year funding is available for projects that span over two fiscal years:

YEAR 1: September 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020
YEAR 2: April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021

In addition to providing an immersion environment for young children to learn the language, Language Nests create opportunities for young parents to learn the language and bring it back into their homes and daily lives, which is necessary for revitalizing a language.
