New Indigenous Languages Grant

The First Peoples Cultural Council is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the Indigenous Languages Grant (ILG). The deadline for applications is now closed. 

This new funding is made possible by the Department of Canadian Heritage as a result of the Government of Canada’s Indigenous Languages Act. 

The Aboriginal Languages Initiative (ALI) program is no longer being offered. For those who were planning on applying for ALI for the 2020/21 program year please see the information below about the Indigenous Languages Grants.

About the Indigenous Languages Grant

The objectives of ILG are to support community projects that preserve, revitalize and promote the revitalization of B.C. First Nations languages. Eligible projects will include community-based activities such as:
• Immersion programming.
• Recording, documenting and preserving languages.
• Creating resources to increase Indigenous language use and proficiency.
• Developing programs for training and certifying Indigenous language teachers and resource people in the community (excluding accredited courses).
• Developing systems to increase communications in Indigenous languages.
• Promoting traditional approaches to learning, such as language camps, gatherings and events. 
• Creating mechanisms for digital tools to share information, materials, and other resources among Indigenous language groups.

Funding: From $25,000 to $60,000. *Language & Culture Camps are eligible for $25,000
Eligibility: B.C. First Nations or Indigenous organizations in B.C.
Deadline: Monday, January 31, 2020 at 4:00 PM
