New Cultural Heritage Grants!

We are excited to now offer funding to support B.C. First Nations communities’ efforts to revitalize and protect their cultural heritage. 

FPCC recognizes that the loss of Indigenous heritage is profound and there is an urgent and immediate need fulfill our mandate to revitalize Indigenous cultural heritage in B.C. by protecting it now and into the future. 

The Sense of Place: Reconnecting the Land through Indigenous Cultural Heritage grant and the Indigenous Heritage Micro-Grant are the first grant programs to be made available through FPCC's Cultural Heritage Program.

A Sense of Place: Reconnecting the Land through Indigenous Cultural Heritage program offers grants to B.C. First Nations communities and Indigenous organizations to foster greater understanding of the connection and safeguarding practices between the land/environment and Indigenous cultural heritage, including Indigenous languages. Funding is available for projects up to $25,000.

Projects will demonstrate how Indigenous cultural heritage is connected to the land and explore how Indigenous knowledge, traditions and languages can be used to enforce community resilience and resurgence, particularly in the context of:
  • climate change
  • cumulative effects
  • pollution prevention (e.g., zero waste management and contamination)
  • sustainable developmentand/or land management and planning
Indigenous Heritage Micro-Grants  program is meant to support emergent activities on a one-time basis with funding up to $2,000. Project applications may include:         
  • activities supporting the performance, preservation and/or sharing of Indigenous heritage 
  • increasing knowledge sharing with elders
  • assisting in developing cultural heritage skills in Indigenous communities

Funding for these grants has been made possible with support from Indigenous Services Canada, Government of Canada (Sense of Place grants) and the B.C. Heritage Branch in the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (Micro-Grants).
