New Arts Community Outreach Coach

June 10, 2020
The First Peoples’ Cultural Council is excited to be increasing our support of Indigenous artists and organizations in B.C. with a new Arts Community Outreach Coach

The intent of this new role is to connect directly with Indigenous artists and organizations to assist them in accessing FPCC programs and resources, planning projects to address COVID-19 requirements and offer advice on raising their profile.

We are honoured to be working with Joanne Finlay (Moskm Gyaaks - White Caps on the Water), who is Tsimshian from Lax Kw’alaams, and lives in Prince Rupert, B.C. Her work with artists began over 20 years ago when she supported her brother Willy White with his FPCC grant application as a Chilkat Weaver. She found her passion as an arts administrator and has been raising funds for artists and organizations ever since.

The role of Arts Community Outreach Coach will include:
  • Sharing expertise to support the success of Indigenous artists and organizations in B.C.
  • Supporting skill development, review and feedback on grant applications for artists applying for FPCC funding
  • Assisting artists and collectives in developing biographies and portfolios
  • Video and phone meetings with artists to discuss their individual needs and project planning
  • Gathering background and historical information on organizations and collectives to assist them in documenting their history
  • Providing training and skills for completing project budgets from an arts perspective
  • Sharing digital tools for artists to work remotely
Joanne has decades of experience as an arts administrator, grant writer, and more recently as a curator, who has worked closely with Indigenous artist and arts organizations across B.C. Her experience and passion will be a great asset to Indigenous artists in B.C.
