Ika'wega (Lou-ann Neel), Vice-Chair

Ika'wega (Lou-ann Neel) is a descendant of the Mamalillikulla, Da’nax’daxw, Ma’amtagila, ‘Namgis and Kwagiulth tribes of the Kwakwaka’wakw. She has been designing and creating original designs for over 30 years; working first in wood carving and paint and moving on to work in textiles and jewelry design. Her work is greatly influenced by her grandmother, Ellen Neel (Kakasolas) and great, great grandfather, Charlie James (Yakuglas). She considers it a great honour to continue the artistic traditions of her family. Lou-ann is also an arts administrator with over 25 years’ experience managing arts, culture and language programs, grant / proposal writing, special event management, and community development. She became Vice-Chair in 2018.
